Abstract. Herlinda S, Gustianingtyas M, Suwandi Suharjo R, Sari JMP, Suparman, Hamidson H, Hasyim H. 2022. Endophytic fungi from South Sumatra (Indonesia) in seed-treated corn suppressing Spodoptera frugiperda growth. Biodiversitas 23: 6024-6031. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect endophytic on S. A total 20 isolates were molecularly identified, namely Chaetomium sp. (GaTpeOi, JgTjPr, PiCrPga, and CaCjPga isolates), Aspergillus niger (PsgTjPr, JgByU, JaBuBys Beauveria bassiana (JgSPK, JaGiP, JaSpkPGA(2) JgCrJr, dan JaTpOi (1) Curvularia lunata (JaGiPRB, CMTJP, JaMsBys, JaSpkPga(3), JgTgSr flavus (JgPWSR isolate), Penicillium citrinum (JaTpOi(2) Metarhizium anisopliae (CaTpPGA isolate). Of isolates, 4 (1)) B. one isolate each C. (JaSpkPga (3)), M anisoplae (CaTpPga) found be more pathogenic larvae. had negative bassiana, M. anisopliae, decreased percentage pupal adult emergence, number eggs laid by treated female adults. also shorten longevity increased larval mortality. This is first report pathogenicity against frugiperda. These findings highlight potential fungi, protect young maize plant seed treatment.

Chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium malariae in south Sumatra, Indonesia.

Oral chloroquine is the treatment of choice for uncomplicated Plasmodium malariae infections worldwide. We did a prospective 28-day in-vivo assessment of the efficacy of chloroquine for treatment of P malariae on Legundi Island in Lampung Bay, Sumatra, Indonesia. Of 28 patients, one had recurrent parasitaemia on day 28, and two had persistent parasitaemia to day 8. Whole-blood chloroquine and d...

Haplotype identification within Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) corn and rice strains from Colombia.

The fall army worm Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith) is a migratory important pest of corn, sorghum, rice, grass and bermudagrass in North and South America. This species has diverged into two genetically differentiated but morphologically identical strains, "the rice" and "the corn". They have been analyzed by sequencing the genes cytochrome oxydase I, II and ITS1 from populations from the United ...

Biodiversity of Endophytic Fungi Associated with Uncaria gambier Roxb. (Rubiaceae) from West Sumatra

Endophytic fungi are specific microbes that live at a specific ecosystem in nature. Various endophytic fungi have been known posses an ability to produce a broad range of biologically active substances. Totally 53 endophytic filamentous fungi were isolated from leaves, stems, fruits and roots of the two plant varieties of Uncaria gambier Roxb. (Rubiaceae), i.e. gambir udang and gambir nasi. Mor...

Geographic Variation in Sexual Attraction of Spodoptera frugiperda Corn- and Rice-Strain Males to Pheromone Lures

The corn- and rice-strains of Spodoptera frugiperda exhibit several genetic and behavioral differences and appear to be undergoing ecological speciation in sympatry. Previous studies reported conflicting results when investigating male attraction to pheromone lures in different regions, but this could have been due to inter-strain and/or geographic differences. Therefore, we investigated whethe...
